Direct primary care software: texting, video and a portal for practices with no front desk
Direct primary care software runs a membership practice where the doctor is the front desk: two-way texting from the practice number, video visits from the appointment, a patient portal with no app, charting on one record, membership details beside the chart, and reminders that go out on their own. Capra is configured for DPC during onboarding and connects to the EHR, calendar and billing tools you already use.
Hi, I've had a headache since my procedure. Should I be worried?
Thanks for flagging, James. Mild headaches are common for 48h. Let's book a quick video check this afternoon.

Why DPC practices switch
The three gaps DPC physicians name most
A DPC practice has no staff to absorb bad software. Physicians describe calendars that drift, support that never answers and platforms that fall over.
Tebra: a calendar that drifts, no Google Calendar sync, long contracts
Reviews describe appointments that do not match between the app and the web, no sync to the physician's own calendar, and contracts that run on for months. Capra syncs two-way with Google Calendar and Outlook and has no lock-in: your data is yours to export.
SimplePractice: no live phone support
A physician running a practice alone cannot wait days for a ticket. Capra's support is human, in UK and UAE hours, from a named team that already knows your setup.
Carepatron: outages and glitches
Practices describe a platform that is unreliable at the moments that matter. Capra is monitored, backed up and resilient, with the practices on our security page behind it.
Based on public reviews on Capterra, Trustpilot and Reddit, last checked 25 October 2026; the full, two-way comparisons are on the compare pages. If you are one of the vendors named and a statement is out of date, email info@capra.health and we will re-review it.
What the member sees
Message, book and join a video visit from one secure link
Tap through the portal as a member would: the next visit with confirm and reschedule, a message to the doctor, the video link when it is a remote visit and the forms before the first appointment.
See, confirm and reschedule appointments
Patients see what's coming up, confirm with a tap, pick a new time when they need to, and join video visits from the same screen.

How it works
Set up for direct primary care in three steps
Most DPC practices are texting, booking and charting in Capra within a few days.
01
Import members and the schedule
Members, membership details and appointments imported from your current system or spreadsheet; visit types, including video, set up for you.
02
Texting, portal and charting templates
Your registered practice number for two-way texting, the member portal, and note templates for visits, labs and follow-up.
03
Connect your EHR and billing, then go live
Reminders, texting and video go live first; the connection to your EHR and to your membership billing is built and tested on the agreed plan.
Direct primary care, in detail
A practice that runs itself between visits
Texting, video, the portal, charting and reminders that share one record and one login.
Two-way texting that is the front desk
Members text the practice number and the doctor answers from a shared inbox on any device, with templates for the questions that come every day and an after-hours auto-reply with next steps. Every message is on the chart, not on a personal phone, and consent is captured at enrollment.

Video visits from the appointment
Video visits run in the browser from the appointment, with the link in the reminder and nothing for the member to install. The note is written on the same record during the call, and the follow-up is booked from it.
Members open the portal from a secure link: appointments with confirm and reschedule, secure messages, forms, results and letters. Enrollment forms and consent are completed before the first visit, and membership details sit beside the chart.

Charting built for a small practice, or keep your EHR
Note templates for visits, labs and follow-up, vitals and medications on one versioned record, and documents shared to the portal. Practices that keep an existing EHR connect it during onboarding so appointments, messages and intake stay in step.
Reminders, recalls and the numbers a solo practice needs
Reminders go out on your rules, annual and chronic-care recalls run by tag, and reporting shows visits each month, response times to member messages and attendance, so a physician sees the practice without building a report.
Software that runs a membership primary care practice with little or no staff: two-way texting, video visits, a member portal, charting, reminders and recalls, with membership details on the record. Capra provides all of it in one workspace and connects to the EHR and billing tools a DPC practice already uses.
Can members text the practice and get a reply from the doctor?
Yes. Texting is two-way from a registered practice number, the doctor answers from a shared inbox on any device, and an after-hours auto-reply sets expectations. Every message is on the chart.
Do video visits need a separate tool?
No. Video visits run in the browser from the appointment, with the link in the reminder, and the note is written on the same record during the call.
Can we keep our EHR?
Yes. Practices that chart in an existing EHR keep it; Capra connects to it during onboarding so appointments, intake and messages stay in step, and adds texting, video, the portal and reminders on top.
Does Capra handle membership billing?
Membership details and status are on the record, enrollment forms are completed before the first visit, and your membership billing platform is connected during onboarding so status stays in step. Capra does not replace the billing platform you already use.
Is there a contract or lock-in?
Your data is yours to export at any time, and onboarding includes importing it from the system you are leaving. There is nothing to work around if you ever need to move.
Is the portal easy for members to use?
Yes. It opens from a secure link with no app and no password, and shows appointments, messages, forms, results and letters. Members who prefer to text or call can; nothing requires the portal.
Will Capra sign a business associate agreement?
Yes. A signed business associate agreement is available on request and is handled during onboarding, alongside the security practices described on our security page.
How long does it take to start?
Most DPC practices are texting, booking and charting within a few days of importing their members. The EHR and membership billing connections follow the onboarding plan agreed with your named lead.
